Presentation Evening 2007
The presentation evening for Area 4A took place at the Renaissance Hotel, South Normanton on Saturday 10th November when it would appear that everyone had a very good time. It was wonderful to see members receiving their rosettes and awards with some taking many different colours and trophies home!
Early in the evening, John Bailey, Treasurer, proposed a toast to the guests and supporters of 4A in attendance and David Sonnex, in reply, proposed the long term health and success of BSPS Area 4A.
The evening also featured a superb Tombola run by Nick and Laura Mitchell which made a good financial contribution to area funds. A lively raffle was organised by Suzanne Hatton's team and the excellent prizes brought forth a large number of ticket sales, again this made a good contribution to area funds. In addition, BSPS Council member, Area 4A Committee member, Judge and general supporters of our area, Mrs Pat Pattinson showed yet further talent by acting as an auctioneer for the evening. She sold many items varying from the services of a top Jack Russell stud terrier to a helicopter ride! There is no end to her abilities and it all helped swell the funds!
Julie Cook, Chairman of BSPS Area 4A welcomed all the members and guests particularly including her guest of honour and presenter of prizes, Mrs Pauline Barfield. In her welcoming speech Julie said:
'Pauline has been our Area Chairman and involved in the Area for many years. Pauline is well known to us all and I am delighted to have this opportunity to thank her on behalf of 4A for her continued and tremendous effort over that time. These efforts were acknowledged earlier this year when Pauline received an honour from the BSPS for her outstanding service to the society at the AGM.
2007 has been a very successful year for 4A members. Some of the highlights are as follows:
Rose Bailey and Emmie Collier had a very successful weekend in Scotland where they were representative of the English Working Hunter Pony Team. Kimberley Minchin won the 15 Hand SHP at the RIHS with her lovely Chestnut mare, Pretoria. Charlotte Horne won the First Ridden in the mini championship and progressed to Supreme Champion Pony at the Royal International on Tydesbrook Roger Rabbit. This was an amazing achievement.
I wish to also congratulate our area members who qualified for the Horse of the Year Show. This especially includes Zoe Love, who won the M and M WHP Large Breeds and again, Charlotte Horne with Tydesbrook Roger Rabbit. Charlotte repeated her success when winning the First Ridden competition.
We should all like to congratulate Clare Minchin, who took third place in the individual Young Judges competition at the BSPS Summer Championships. This competition sets a very high standard and Clare's result was of the very highest order.
I am pleased to say that Sharon Tydeswell, the breeder of Roger Rabbit is one of our kind sponsors and is with us this evening.
At this point I would also like to thank all of our other many sponsors and friends for all their generosity and support throughout the year which is very much appreciated.
As you know one of the main aims of the society is to encourage and promote the training of our young riders. This year the Committee has decided to award three Training Bursaries and the successful recipients will be announced during our presentation ceremony later.
Finally, I should like to thank our hard working Committee all of whom spend many hours behind the scenes ensuring every event runs smoothly. You certainly are a great team".
(The rest of the Committee would like to express their thanks to Julie for the considerable amount of work she puts into Area 4A throughout the year, and especially the Presentation Evening!).
